Named for Zephaniah Kingsley, the man who was the owner of Fort George Island's plantation from 1814 until 1837, Kingsley Plantation National Historic Site displays the ruins and rebuilt structures that once served as shelter for the plantation's residents, both owners and slaves. Visitors can see the ruins of some 25 slave quarters, as well as a restored structure and the plantation owners' home, dating to 1798. The site is part of the Timucan Ecological and Historic Preserve set of sites, located just west of Little Talbot Island State Park and south of Big Talbot Island State Park, about 24 miles by car out of Jacksonville.
